Women’s cross country competes at Lehigh/Paul Short Run

Men’s Brown Race Results Women’s Gold Race Results Men’s Open Race ITHACA, N.Y.—Juniors Vasili Papastrat and Lindsay Raulli were the top BU finishers, highlighting Binghamton’s performance at the Lehigh Paul Short Cross Country Run on Friday afternoon. The Bearcats placed second out of 46 teams in the Men’s Brown Race and were 39th out of 45 squads in the Women’s Gold Race. The Gold Race is the most competitive of the men’s and women’s events at the Lehigh/Paul Short Run, followed by the Brown and White Races. There was also an Open Race, in which there was no team scoring and independent runners can enter. Papastrat, who placed 15th overall, covered the men’s 8,000-meter course in a time of 26:05. Junior Jason Santos was 25th (26:12), sophomore Chris Fernandez was 39th (26:26), junior Anthony Gaetani was 51st (26:35) and freshman Cal Michaels was 74th (26:51). There were 382 finishers in the Men’s Brown Race. Christopher Johnson of Colgate took top honors with a time of 25:19. Iona won the team title with 125 points. Binghamton scored 204 points in its runner-up effort. Raulli, meanwhile, was 166th overall in the women’s 6,000-meter race with a time of (22:51). Sophomore Caitlin Jelinek was 179th (22:59) and junior Rachel Miura was 187th (23:03). There were 396 finishers in the Women’s Gold Race. Bogdana Mimic of Villanova, a 2009 All-American, recorded a winning time of 20:10. Providence, which is currently ranked third in the nation by the USTFCCCA, took the team crown with just 101 points. The Bearcat women finished with 1,002 points. Up next for both Binghamton squads is the Albany Invitational on Oct. 15. NOTE: Jeff Martinez, who is redshirting this season, was second in the Men’s Open Race with a time of 25:29. Adam Quinn, who has used up his cross country eligibility but will run both indoor and outdoor track, was 36th overall (26:19). Martinez was 48th overall in the Men’s Gold Race last season with a time of 24:52. He later went on to place a team-best fifth at the America East Meet.
