BU Cross Country Squads Compete at Albany Invitational

Complete Results ALBANY, N.Y.—Freshman Cal Michaels was seventh overall in the men’s race and graduate student Ashley Horton was 16th in the women’s race, highlighting the Binghamton cross country squad’s performances at the Albany Invitational on Saturday afternoon. In the team standings, the Bearcat men were second out of 21 squads while the women were eighth out of 23 teams. Michaels was the lead runner in a strong Binghamton pack. He covered the men’s 8,000-meter course in a time of 25:51. Junior Vasili Papastrat was ninth (25:54), marking the second straight year he has placed in the top 10 of the race. He was eighth last season.  Junior Jason Santos was 10th (25:55.0), junior Anthony Gaetani was 11th (25:55.3) and sophomore Chris Fernandez was 14th (25:59). The distance between the Bearcats’ first five runner was only eight seconds. With freshmen Collin Frost in 21st place (26:10) and Matt Johnson coming in 28th place (26:20), the distance between Binghamton top seven runners was 29 seconds. Paul Lango of Albany won the 185-runner event in a time of 24:42. The Great Danes also took places two and four en route to a winning score of just 36 points. Binghamton’s runner-up score was 51 points. Horton, meanwhile, completed the women’s 5,000-meter course in a time of 18:29. Juniors Rachel Miura and Lindsay Raulli were 39th (19:05) and 50th (19:20) respectively.Sophomore Caitlin Jelinek placed 61st (19:52) and freshman Jessica Falcon was 132nd (21:47). Grayce Selig of Brandeis won the 192-runner race with a time of 17:34. New Hampshire, however, took four of the next five places to win the meet with a score of just 29 points. Binghamton returns to Albany for the America East Championships on Oct. 29.
