VESTAL, N.Y.—The Binghamton track & field program has announced its incoming class for the 2012-13 academic year. It consists of 18 freshmen and one junior college transfer. Temi Bajulaiye arrives from New Rochelle High School. He placed eighth in the 600 at the New York State (NYS) Indoor Championships as a senior and won the 400 title at the 2012 Eastern States Championships. His top times are 49.54 in the 400, 1:21.90 in the 600 and 1:57.30 in the 800. “Temi’s initial focus will be at 400 meters but he could move up to 800 meters in the future,” head coach Mike Thompson said. Cameron Black comes from St. Anthony’s High School. He placed third in the 55 hurdles at the 2012 NYS Indoor Championships and was the runner-up in the 110 hurdles at the outdoor meet. His top performances are 7.59 in the 55 hurdles and 14.37 in the 110 hurdles. “Cameron is an exceptional hurdler who could make an immediate impact in the America East Conference,” Thompson said. “He has the potential to contribute in the jumps as well.” Erik Chevez graduated from General Douglas MacArthur High School. At the long Island Meet of Champions, he placed third overall in the 400. His top time in that event is 49.55. “Erik is a solid 400 runner who will help continue our strong tradition in that event,” Thompson said. Jordan Kihl is a thrower from Lancaster High School. At the NYS Indoor championships, he was second overall in the shot put. He followed up with a fifth-place performance in the shot put and a sixth-place effort in the discus at the NYS outdoor meet. His top distances are 55-5 1/2 in the shot put, 156-2 in the discus and 55-11 in the 25 lb. weight throw. “Jordan is one of the top throwers in New York,” Thompson said. “He has the potential to become one of the top throwers in BU history.” Jon King transfers from Broome Community College as a sophomore. He graduated from nearby Maine-Endwell High School in 2010. He competes in the high jump, where is top height is 6-8. “Jon was a good high jumper in high school and has improved during the past year at Broome CC,” Thompson said. “He should be a strong competitor for us in the America East Conference.” Max Linden comes from Pascack Valley High School in New Jersey. He is a quarter miler whose fastest time is 49.78. “Max will add depth to our 400 group,” Thompson said. “He has the ability to be a standout in the future.” Joe Miceli is a pole vaulter from Miller Place High School. He was sixth in the event at the NYS indoor championships and came in fourth at the outdoor meet. His top height is 15-0. “Joe is a consistent vaulter who is just starting to realize his potential in the event,” Thompson said. “I think he has all of the tools to compete at the regional, and possibly national level in the future.” Nick Puusalu is a sprinter and jumper from Waverly High School. At the NYS Outdoor Championships, he was fifth in the 200. His top performances are 11.00 in the 100, 22.63 in the 200 and 22-2 in the long jump. “Nick is a talented sprinter who also has great potential in the long jump,” Thompson said. Chris Ramsey is a jumper from Byram Hills High School. He was fifth overall in the NYS Outdoor Meet in the triple jump. His personal bests are 21-10 1/2 in the long jump and 46-6 3/4 in the triple jump. “Chris will focus on the triple jump but could contribute in the long jump as well,” Thompson said. Mike Robinson is a triple jumper from Fallsburg High School. His top performance is 45-7 1/2. “Mike is a late addition to our team who could be a pleasant surprise in the triple jump,” Thompson said. On the women’s side, Kierra Arthur is a jumper and hurdler from Thomas R. Proctor High School. She took fourth place in the triple jump at the 2011 NYS Championships. Her top performances are 14.57 in the 100 hurdles and 38-8 1/2 in the triple jump. “Kierra is a talented jumper and hurdler who should make an immediate impact on our program,” Thompson said. Taylor Bates is a pole vaulter from Lake Shore High School. She was fourth at the NYS Indoor Championships and was the runner up at the recent outdoor meet. Her top height is 11-6. “Taylor has been a steady performer in high school and has the ability to take her jumping to the next level in college,” Thompson said. Caysie Capano is a thrower from Troy High School. She was second in the discus at the NYS Outdoor Championships and fourth in the shot put at the preceding indoor meet. “Caysie has a breakthrough year in 2012 and should make an immediate impact at the conference level,” Thompson said. Nicole Hertzberg arrives from W. Tresper Clarke High School. Her top performances are 5-2 in the high jump and 15.30 in the 100 hurdles. “Nicole is a solid all-around athlete who will pick up the pole vault in college,” Thompson said. Sarah Loud arrives from Williamsville North High School. Her fastest time in the 400 hurdles is 1:04.05. “Sarah will focus on the 400 hurdles and will add depth to our 400 group,” Thompson said. Kenyon Merriwether is a thrower from nearby Vestal High School. She won both the shot put and the discus at the 2012 Section IV Championships. Her top throws are 35-3 3/4 in the shot put and 115-1 in the discus. “Kenyon is a top local thrower who will help add depth to the throws group,” Thompson said. “She could develop into a conference scorer in the future.” Lativia Perkins arrives from Troy High School. She has run 15.34 in the 100 hurdles and 8.44 in the 55 hurdles. “Lativia is a solid hurdler with the ability to develop into a strong hurdler in the future,” Thompson said. Nina Sarmiento is a sprinter from Harrison High School. She has run 41.81 in the 300 and 1:02.64 in the 400 hurdles. “Nina is a talented long sprinter who lost her senior season due to injury,” Thompson said. “She showed tremendous promise early in her career and I think she could become one of the top 400 hurdles in school history now that she is healthy.” Tori Shaffer is a high jumper from Rush-Henrietta High School. She was the runner up at the NYS Indoor Championships. Her top height is 5-7. “Tori is one of the top high jumper in New York,” Thompson said. “We look forward to her making an immediate contribution at the conference level and eventually the regional level.”
