Cross country competes in Iona Meet of Champions

BRONX, N.Y. Junior Alexis Hatcher placed a team-best 19th overall in the women s race, highlighting Binghamton s performance at the Iona Cross Country Meet of Champions on Saturday morning at Van Cortlandt Park. The Bearcat men finished eighth out of 23 teams while the women were 12th out of 20 squads.

Hatcher covered the women s 6,000-meter course in a time of 23:04. Fellow junior Lizzie Greiner was 57th (24:27), sophomore Eileen O Hara was 65th (24:45), freshman Allison Davis was 71st (24:54) and junior Shannon O Hara was 77th (25:10).

There were 163 runners in the women s race, which was won by Sylvia Del Fava of Albany (22:27). Brown, meanwhile, won the team title with 38 points.

On the men s side, junior Ethan Hausamann led Binghamton with a 29th place finish, completing the 8,000-meter course in a time of 26:34. Senior Matt Johnson was 30th (26:35), senior Ben Snodgrass was 47th (27:00), junior Nate Kozyra was 56th (27:07) and graduate student Chris Fernandez was 70th (27:20).

There were 205 runners in the men s race, led by Robert Allen of UMass Lowell, who captured the individual title in a time of 25:32. Arkansas, which took the next three places, won the men s team championship with 46 points.

Up next for Binghamton is the Lehigh/Paul Short Run on Oct. 4.
