Track & field program inks 10 high school standouts

VESTAL, N.Y.—The Binghamton track & field program has announced the signing of 10 high school standouts. The five men and five women will all join the program this fall as freshmen.

On the men s side, Peter Fagan (Westfield, N.J.) is a pole vaulter from Westfield High School This past week, he placed fifth overall at the New Balance Outdoor National Championships with a lifetime-best jump of 16-2. During the 2013 indoor season, he was third in the pole vault at both the New Jersey Meet of Champions and Eastern States Championships.

Jon Alkins (Tuckahoe, N.Y.) is a sprinter from Eastchester High School. He placed third in the 300 at the New York State (NYS) Indoor Championships. At the ensuing NYS Outdoor Meet, he was third in the 200 and eighth in the 100. Alkins top times are 10.81 in the 100, 21.63 in the 200, 34.13 in the 300 and 49.62 in the 400.

Serhiy Kralka (Bloomfield, N.J.) is a thrower from Bloomfield High School. He captured the Essex County shot put title this past outdoor season. Kralka s top performances are 55-5 in the shot put and 169-3 in the discus.

Matt Urbano (Yonkers, N.Y.) is a pole vaulter from Iona Prep High School. At last month s Outdoor Eastern States Championships, he was second overall. His top height is 14-6.

Ian Weykamp (Loudonville, N.Y.) is a hurdler from Shaker High School. At the recent NYS Outdoor Meet, he placed fifth overall in the 400 hurdles. His top time in that event is 54.56.

On the women s side, Keishorea Armstrong (Troy, N.Y.) is a sprinter and jumper from Emma Willard High School. At the NYS Outdoor Meet, she was the runner up in the 200 and placed eighth in the high jump. Her top performances are 12.28 in the 100, 25.14 in the 200 and 5-6 in the high jump.

Jackie Crunden (Huntington Station, N.Y.) is a jumper and hurdler from Walt Whitman High School. She won the high jump title at the NYS Outdoor Meet. Her top performances are 5-7 in the high jump and 15.35 in the 100 hurdles.

Sarah Haley (Wingdale, N.Y.) is a pole vaulter, sprinter and hurdler from Dover High School. At the NYS Outdoor Meet, she was seventh in the pole vault. Her top performances are 10-6 in the pole vault, 1:04.61 in the 400 hurdles and 59.27 in the 400.

Aziza Hawthorne (Laurelton, N.Y.) is a sprinter from Mary Louis Academy . She won the 300 at this year s CHSAA City Championships. Her top times are 25.53 in the 200, 41.28 in the 300 and 58.27 in the 400.

Ana Herbert (Centerport, N.Y.) is a sprinter from Harborfields High School. She placed fourth in the 400 at the 2013 Section 11 Championships. Her top performances are 25.62 in the 200 and 56.92 in the 400.

Sarah Osaheni (Clifton Park, N.Y.) is a jumper and hurdler from Shenandehowa High School. She won the triple jump at this year s NYS Indoor Championships. Her top performances are 17-4 in the long jump, 38-0 in the triple jump, 8.43 in the 55 hurdles and 15.48 in the 100 hurdles.

These 10 recruits join distance runners Eric Holt (Carmel, N.Y.) of Carmel High School and Eileen O Hara (Wester, N.Y.) of Webster-Thomas High School, each of whom signed a National Letter of Intent back in February. Holt, who won the NYS title in the 1,600, was also seventh in the 3,200 at the New Balance Outdoor Meet. O Hara, meanwhile, captured the women s 1,500 title at the NYS Meet.
