Cross country competes at NCAA Northeast Regional Meet

BRONX, N.Y. Junior Ethan Hausmann was 39th in the men s race, highlighting the Binghamton cross country teams performances at the NCAA Northeast Regional Meet on Friday at Van Cortlandt Park. The Bearcat men were 13th out of 39 squads while the women were 29th out of 40 teams.

The Bearcat men came into the race ranked No. 13 in the USTFCCCA Northeast Region Poll. They placed among the top 15 teams at the regional meet for the fifth time since 2008 and will finish the season ranked in the USTFCCA Poll for the fourth time in six years.

Hausamann covered the 10K course in a time of 31:19. In the process, he recorded the highest finish by a Bearcat men s runner since Erik van Ingen was 12th and Chris Gaube was 38th in 2010.

Sophomore Eric Holt was 67th (31:40), senior Matt Johnson was 71st (31:41), senior Jesse Garn placed 77th (31:48) and senior Andrew Roache was 98th (32:06).

Jake Byrne of Iona won the men s race with a time of 30:26. Syracuse, meanwhile, was the top team with 45 points.

There were 261 runners in the men s race.

On the women s side, Alexis Hatcher placed 74th in the 6K race, finishing with a time of 21:48. It is the highest finish by a Binghamton runner in the women s event since Ashley Horton was 57th in 2007.

Freshman Allison Davis was the Bearcats second runner, placing 178th overall (23:11).

Kate Avery won of Iona won the women s race with a time of 19:49. She paced the Gaels to the team title as well, with 91 points.

There were 275 runners in the women s race.

NOTE: Binghamton was also the top team from the America East Conference, beating six other schools. Stony Brook was second among conference schools with a 19th-place finish.
